An Outboard Powered Houseboat

Mary Lee, a spacious houseboat of L. Hufschmidt, Lansing, Iowa, is a leviathan of the Middle West river country, propelled by an outboard motor, a Johnson 32.

The hull of this river craft measures 32 feet, and although it can accommodate six persons comfortably, it rides easily over eleven inches of water.

A separate compartment houses the motor, which can be tilted up when not in use, and a hatch door slid underneath.  This separate compartment prevents gas from entering the boat.  The motor is controlled from the wheel house.  The craft achieves a speed of about five miles per hour, and this can be increased about two miles an hour by the addition of smaller Sea Horses clamped on the side.

Mr. Hufschmidt is considering the addition of two small motors this season in addition to an electric starter for the larger motor.

Bonefish and the Outboard

It's nice to be able to cruise the decades more freely and share some cool articles!!  I don't usually pay attention to articles written this late, 1928, since Jack's interests for the web sites tend to be much earlier.

This old Motorboating article had lots going for it, an old Johnson, some nice fishing, and the how-to element I enjoy.
