"Evinruding" - A Collection of News Articles and Ads

Every year around the time of the Tomahawk AOMCI meet I become aware that Jack's web sites need work and updating.

Digging into my to-do list I found these odds and ends. I thought I would stick them here first just for fun to remind folks of the Bess Evinrude Ice Cream Run on the Wisconsin River!  All rowboat motors (and their people) are invited to take the trip up the river to the Dunkin Donut which has a dock.  It is a fun expedition, fraught with rowboat motor peril, but we all get there one way or another!!

1929 - Capt. Bordewich's " A Compass In The Outboard"

This article caught my attention because it is by Capt. Bordewich, the man that crossed the North Sea with his Elto Quad in the previous post.  But what made me want post it is the do-it-yourself navigating technology he was sharing, product of a great trial and error design process.

A Fine Illustration of Manly Determination

Herbert Paus illustrated this cover in 1928.
As you might guess, he was known for good draughtsmanship and strong use of color!

(Remember, I am an art teacher...)

Herbert Paus (1880-1946) was a native of Minneapolis and got his first job as a cartoonist for the  St. Paul Pioneer Press. He worked for Collier's, Ladies' Home Journal, and Life and others.

1928 - Water Flivvering, New National Sport

The author of this article appealed to me because of his ability to share the sheer joy the sport gave people.  It is a nicely designed double page spread, too.  I included a scan of the full pages at the end of this post.
